PTG Savage Replacement Bolt (adjustable spring tension)

Curious about these, can anyone elaborate. These are drop in replacements, standard or oversized bodies? This was shown on the bulletin as being at this years shot show. I am very interested to hear more. Here is a pic:

Being a PT&G product I would assume that you can order the O.D. of the bolt body to your specs. The sharp pin fits into the mating bushing thereby reducing bolt lift tension. Looks like you could also adjust the firing pin spring tension with the allen wrench. Just my take on it. ;D

These replacement bolts are semi finished and may require some gunsmithing. What I am saying is they may require bolt race reaming, lapping, and adjusment to the primary extraction. The customer can order the desired precision ground OD to within .0005". They are offered in ODs from .699"-.715". I would recomend a .002" clearance. The bolt lift kits are of my design and Dave Kiff has been gracious enough to offer them as part of the package. One needs to understand Savage bolt timing to acheive the best results using this replacement bolt.

In the picture the bolthead is a precision ground 4140 bolthead, the bolt body is a 4140 precision ground that comes round, straight fluted, or helical fluted, The bolt handle is of my design and Ian's (at PT&G) machine work. The main screw is drilled, reamed, tapped .250" x .28tpi. It has a grade 8 cone point set screw inserted in it. The bolthead cross pin is precision ground for a better fit. The bolt uses the factory firing pin assembly, front and rear baffles.

When properly fitted and adjusted the end user should have 50-60% reduced bolt lift. It as a side benefit allows for external firing pin tension adjustment.

The complete bolt assembly was selling for $300.00 at the shot show. You will have to contact PT&G for pricing as there are several variables available. They are be available.

Suggestion: If you do not have the knowledge, skill and equipment to fit these bolts in your rifle, have a competent gunsmith order and replace your bolt for you. It may save you some money, time and aggrevation.
