PTG Bolt fitting

What is involved installing a new bolt (PTG) in a Rem 700? I know it depends on gun, but usually what things have to be tweaked?

Replacing a bolt is best done when replacing a barrel, as you would need to set the headspace anyway. If you are not replacing the barrel, then you would need to adjust the headspace (depending on if you have too much headspace or the bolt would not close) by ether trimming the shoulder on the barrel tenon or the lugs on the bolt itself. You could adjust it other ways as well like surface grinding the recoil lug etc... Hope this helps, PM me if you need more detailed info or someone to do it for you.

Thanks for ideas. Do you know what is involved in using a coned bolt too? Can I just machine angle on the barrel? The existing barrel has the "3 rings pf steel" bolt now.

The existing barrel? I'm not sure you can clean up all of the cuts to an existing barrel to make a cone nose bolt work. Unless your planning to rechamber it or set it back quite a bit. For a new barrel, yes, just machine the same angle into the barrel and set the end play, I usally set the end play to about .008"-.010" of clearance before the chambering process.

you would more than likely want to true up your action when replacing the bolt. The action face and the recever lugs and the threads. I would have the raceway reamed so they are both the same size as most all Remington's are tapered at one end. That way you could get the bolt clearance where you would like. You will also need to time and solder you handle on your bolt body to.
