PTG .284Win specifications

G"Day Guys,
I hope you could please help me with a .284win reamer made by PTG. I am building a .248win for longrange hunting and will be using Winchester Brass no neck turn and shooting 168gr Berger and 162gr Hornady A-max Bullets in a single feed short action, I have emailed PTG several times, but have been told they get so many emails not to expect a reply for awhile. I am in Australia so I did not want to ring them and was wondering if you could please tell me if the Reamer on there web site they call 284winchester GAP Match Finisher Reamer model:971496 would be the one I could use.
I have been reading as much as I can on this calibre and hope this Reamer is what I am looking fore, but I am unable to find what size neck and throat it will cut.

Thank You for any help and advice you can give me.

Cheers..........John.

If you need to get me use my custom shop email dave@kifftool.com. I reply two time's a day. I run reamers that need to get out in a few weeks in the custom shop and the only way to go through the custom shop is to use this email as the others have thousands of emails asking me from what type of reamer to get to what stock, barrel, brass or pick up truck to buy hell I even get folk's coming to me for marital advice . I always take the time to help but some things I cant help with . The custom shop email is about custom Chamber Reamers only. Or call me on my desk phone 541-826-5808. The 284 match reamer I would get is one that would have a .317 neck for no turn or a .313 for turn neck with a .149 free bore to touch or for 168 thru 180's I would get a .188 FB . I build allot of other free bore's for folks so others may be able to tell us what is working best I learn by listening to my customers. Thanks Dave PTG Custom Shop

G"Day David

I have had great results with 168 Bergers with the reamer that Dave built for me. It has the .188 FB and a .314 neck(need to turn). Good luck with your project. :)

Thanks for the info Paul, I was hoping somebody had bought this model reamer # 971496 so as I could get an idea of the dimension it is as to what size throat and neck it cuts so I could buy it straight of PTG web site save me having to get a custom reamer made.Maybe someone has used it and will see this post. ;)
Thanks again of all the help...............John.

If you enter #971496 on the Midway USA search bar it shows as a PTG Interchangeable Pilot Chamber Finish Reamer 284 Winchester GAP Match and includes a note. Which reads - NOTE: This 284 Winchester GAP Match reamer is specced for use with 175 Sierra MatchKing projectiles loaded to 3.10" Cartridge Overall Length.. I would be safe to say that it is a standard no-turn neck. Hope this helps.

Thank to all that answed and for all your advice, I have now ordered a .284win Reamer with a .317 neck for no turn Winchester Brass with .188FB and 1-30 deg from PTG. I also ordered this Reamer in carbide steel as the barrel it will be chambering is a Lothar Walther and they are known to be rather hard steel, so it is better to be on the safe side.
Thanks again for all your help.
Cheers.............John. :)

Anyone else using this 284 GAP reamer? What makes it special other than the freebore?

He won't be using a 3.10 oal if using a short action platform. The most he'll get is 3.00. Most likely 2.950-2.975 max. This will be important when considering a reamer as well. You will not be using anything but 162-168 bullets in a short action.
