PTG 1 piece bolt

Just checking to see what the experience has been using the PTG 1 piece bolts. I have used the 2 piece bolts but am considering trying the 1 piece. I don't have an issue machining to get the correct clearance. Has anyone had issue with too much axial clearance as received? Any issues with the timing of the handle?

I highly recommend the PTG 1 piece bolts for remington 700. Whenever someone contacts me for an extractor job I suggest they consider selling their bolt and buying the PTG bolt. They can order it with a small firing pin and whatever exractor they want. 80% of the time they just drop in with good timing. Occasionally they are too short and either the bolt or the lugs need just a few .001" taken off. They always have excellent primary extraction (location and timing, plus they have a strong shoulder on the handle). Downside is long lead time.. Also, PTG is impossible to deal with if you want anything custom or mess up your order. Don't order anything that isn't on the website and don't try to change your order after it is made. check it 3 times before hitting submit. If you do this, it will show up just fine. lead times are several weeks.
Disclosure: I'm now using the 2 piece bolts because they are cheaper and I can solder whatever handle I want on. but if you're not able to do the handle job, go with 1 piece.

I ordered a two-piece body/M16 extractor cut, came in only three weeks and diameter was exactly to spec.
Just sent it off to Accu-Tig for the handle install.

Is this for an existing barreled action?
No its for a new build. Its going into a received I trued up and installed a 2 piece PTG bolt with a standard bolt face. My borther will use it for FTR and want a 223 bolt face also. I don't braze the handles and wanted to avoid having to ship it off for that.

Thanks for the input. I have been selling the factory bolts and using the 2 piece bolts as well. I've had very good results with the PTG bolts. I don't braze the handles and wanted to avoid sending it off for that. I just wasn't real sure about the axial clearance of the 1 piece bolts. Sounds like you've had good success with them fitting properly. The cost is more but worth it if I don't need to ship it out.

I have used a couple of them with excellent results. Mine ended up having nearly perfect axial handle position and these actions have maximum extraction now which is a big improvement. They make them with a minimum dimension between the lugs and the handle so that you may need to set the bolt up in your lathe and dress a little off the front of the handle to get it to close fully with proper extraction. Before you do that, break the edges on the corners of the lugs where they engage the closing ramps in the action. This may be all that is necessary, especially if the action has some wear and the lug abutments have been trued up. Another suggestion is to carefully check the bolt face and extractor cuts and make sure the extractor you are using fits and functions. There have been a few "quality escapes" and it might be easier to return if unmolested.

I bought one for a Model Seven. By the time I got the issues taken care of I had about $500 in just the bolt. But it is now a nice part.
