I currently own a Savage 12vss with a chote stock in 22-250 and would like a more stable higher BC bullet for down range performance. I really like this gun, and the trigger. I would prefer to have a more percision bolt, but I can live with it as is.
I am interested in doing some long range shooting in the 600 yd and up area.
I have several options
Rebarrel my gun to a 260 via a sharp shooters supply douglass barrel for $280. Cheap but not sure about ultimate accuracy.
Re-barrel my gun to a 260 via a Kreiger or other high end barrel maker that will custom fit the barrel to my gun. I realize this is probably the best re-barrel option, but it will run around $550. Still not the end of the world, but is it worth the extra $ ??
My 3rd option is to build a new rifle around a remington 700 or better action jewel trigger and a krieger or similar barrel and keep my savage as a 22-250.
My wallet says re-barrel it via sharp shooters supply.
My head says go full tilt do it right and build a gun from the ground up, although the savage is no slouch.
Thanks for the patience.
