First I am a new member here. I have been lurking for a while and decided to join.
I have a 243 that I had built in 1974 on a Mauser action. It had a 30in Federal barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. Last years prairie dog hunt finished off the barrel.
I sent it to Douglas for a new barrel. 24in 1 in 12 twist.,At my age I like the less weight)Same contour as the old one. I then had it rebedded.
I started working up loads for it. The best I got was, 70gr BlitzKing 36.5gr 4064 Winchester primers = .52 group. 85gr BTHP Sierra 43.5gr IMR4350 Winchester primers = .71 group.
I ran out of the Winchester primers and the only thing avaiable were MagTech. I loaded some with the MagTech and the groups went to 1-1/2'
Am I missing something or can primers make that much difference?
