Problems with 7mm-08 load. (hunting rifle)

Trying to get rid of pesky flyers on a Sako A7 in 7-08. Checked everything, scope, bases, my bench technique and I still turn out a ragged hole with a flyer.

Two shots touching and a flyer. Generally the flyer is the second round???

I checked the OAL length and HOLLY COW!! I can not seat them to the lands and eject a loaded round! The freebore length is HUGE...

On a Nosler 140 grain Accubond, the powerbelt(base of bullet before boattail) is way up in the neck when seated to the lands. Hornadys are worse because of their different ogive.

Would a light crimp say from a Lee Factory Crimp die help in this case? maybe get pressure up befor the big jump?

???

Just some thoughts;
What's the bore condition? My rifle likes a dirty/fouled bore, generally 6> rounds for it to settle down. I hunt with a fouled bore.

And barrel temp is critical for me and mine, while shooting for group a couple of my guns put that 1st shot low, then settle into a group.
Another will give me 3 shots then start a vertical string.
Obviously with my hunting rifles, I sight for that 1st cold shot.

You'll have to decide, based on what you are seeing, if the innacuracy is rifle-induced or load-induced. You'll have different fixes for either, but you need to hold one thing constant, eliminate it as a cause, then move on to the other.

Equipment: You said you checked scope/mount/bases. Have you checked barrel contact with the stock and/or bedding? If it's a synthetic stock, you my try shooting it with the rifle placed on the bags quite a bit closer to the action than you are used to - as close as you can get it to the front action screw, rather than out at the fore-end. If stock flexing is a cause, that should tell you. Sometimes the flex in a stock at the fore-end actually causes the stock to "hinge" behind the front action screw, which can really affect accuracy. By moving the rest point backwards, it somewhat mitigates effect of stock flex. The stock deflection will be a function of force (gun weight) x lever arm length - you can't do anything about the weight, but lever arm length is managable. It cost nothing to try. I had to "fix" one synthetic stock by bedding a pieces of aluminum bar stock to the insides of the magazine well...

IMO crimping is a last resort after you've tried everything else to make sure you are getting consistent bullet release. IMO, a better approach may be to focus on uniforming your case necks (length, neck wall thickness, chamfer) before turning to crimping. Doesn't take much runout on the loaded rounds to cause the effect you are seeing on paper. Are you measuring runout?

go to an old post where i asked the same exact question. I got lots of feedback to look thru. I still havnt fixed my flyer problem because i ran out of ammo and had to order some which of course is back ordered till who knows when. I think my post is on page 3 and is called frustrated with flyers need help.
