problem with harrell powder measure

Any one have a problem with a harrell culver powder measure locking up when using fine powders like Ramshot XTermator. I dropped about 25 rounds and it got stiff, a few more and it locked up. Is this normal with small ball powder? How do you disassemble and clean out.I can't imagine this is normal for a $300.00 measure.

You take the handle off and push the cyl out. Something is wrong ive dropped bullseye and 335 with mine alot. Unscrew the baffle and look in there and see whats goin on

One thing that could be happening is the powder is finer than the gap between the drum and the body... If that is the case you should get ahold of the boys at Harrells and tell them whats going on.

I use their premium measure and it will meter and swing very nicely with any small powder.

As an add to what dusty said , I would completely remove the baffle and try that.

Two things that I have done to my harrells measures is to spray the inside cavity with aerosol graphite and I remove the handle and carefully file the slot in the drum where the handle sits till it gives me the feel i like without having any excess lateral slop.

With the baffle removed , take a feeler gauge .0015" thats one and a half thousands.. And lay it on the drum ... Now rotate the handle and see if the feeler gauge will fit between the body and the drum.. Should'nt be able to get a .002" to fit at all and a .0015 should just barely want to pull itself in when stroking the handle.

Have you tried giving Harrell's a call to see if they can help. They are nice people.
