Problem with Ackley repeater

I recently built a .260 Ackley Improved for the team tactical style ruck matches and will head to Mammoth in less than a month. Up to this point I had only been doing load development and fire forming. I just found out that I can't load more than 4-5 rounds in my Accurate Mags before the rounds start to bind on the inward formed channel (either for strength or round control). The pushed forward should is now contacting this rib.

Has anyone else figured out how to run an Ackley Improved cartridge based on the .308 in AI style magazines? I have heard that Accuracy International magazines "might" work but I don't know if I would need a particular model and I'm not looking to drop $100 on a tryout magazine. My action is a Tikka and it's riding in an MPA chassis.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Buy AI mags.

Not sure what an inward formed channel is or where you are paying $100 for AIs, but I have bunches and bunches of them and pay $67 each.

Good luck.

Ackleys as a rule run better through AICS mags than standard versions. Look at a different magazine brand and see if that fixes it for you. Don't give up. Best of luck

Thanks for the replies fellas!

I will look to buy an AI mag to try out. Can someone tell which model I would need? I assume it's the AICS but I don't want to make a mistake and get the wrong one.

Well you have a T3 in a chassis, witch means you have to use Short action mags, since there is no MPA chassis that accept LA mags for the Tikka T3.

Accuracy International AICS Short Action (308/762) Five Round Magazine.
Or the ten round version whatever floats your boat.

I think you would want the AICS not the AW mags. The AICS mags go from a double stack to a single feed. AW mags are double stack/dual feed.

Depending on the action I would almost think the AW mags would/should work. I have a few AI cases on repeaters that feed out of the original bottom metals with no issues. .22-250AI, 7x57AI and .280AI.

Thanks Frank....by the way, I'm running a 26" Bartlein Medium Palma on this Tikka and it's a straight up hammer. I shot a PRS match fire forming and only missed targets that I missed the wind call on. Even during load development the rifle never shot over 1/2 MOA. I've found the only brand barrel I'll ever buy again!

I’m running alpha mags for my 260ai and it runs like poo through a goose.

If you can find one used you could have it in time for next month. Otherwise, good luck...

To all the guys that recommended the AICS mags, you were correct. In pictures they so much like the Accurate mags but that rib that protrudes into the magazine doesn't go in near as much and the AI rounds fit perfectly.

I appreciate everyone weighing in. Now I can focus on other things for Mammoth!
