Problem while Fire-Forming for 6mmBR-A

I had some similar FF issues in my 6 BRA, after switching to 400 primers and seating a .015 jam the problem went away.

I had DJ Hydra form 100 pieces and had no issues with them. He's doing 300 pieces now for my new rifle.

Same here - the ones DJ's hyd-frmd for me are fine also. Unfortunately, I already turned the necks on the 100 that I could have sent him to hyd-frm.

I have the CCI-450s and Fed GM205Ms. Other than that, the only other sm rifle primers I have are Rem 7-1/2, and I do not know how those would work. I could buy 100 of the CCI400s and try them. I really only need to FF 100 cases now.

And . . . the Saturday match I was planning to shoot and Fire-form, has been cancelled due to weather, so I can take a little time to esperient.

Thanks to everyone - lost's of good information.

Now that the match is postponed, stick those 205s in and see how much adjustment you have to make. Problem solved. I'll bet its close.

Edit: and as low as your failure rate was, you could load as you were, and just make sure you're conservative on sighters until you shoot your last record string. Any fail to fires take home, pull the bullets, reload with same bullets and 205 primers and shoot into a stump to form. You wont have but a handful.

My concern with the 205Ms is that out of the 10 I tried, 10 went off OK, but two were pierced.

Might the CCI-400, as has been suggetsed, work?

Thx!

The Rem 7 1/2's have a thick cup similar to the CCI 450's. Ive fire formed hundreds of Dashers with tight neck tension, CCI 400's and a .020 jam with zero FTF's.

Buy every primer on the shelf and test them side by side.
Then you'll know

I havent used 400s but its my understanding they are just as thin as 205s. If you were blowing 205s, that's yet another sign of too much headspace. That happens in dashers too, then they adjust their die or anneal their brass and the problem goes away.

I'll revert to my edit.
