Morning fellows, I just wanted to start with a good note. I was glad to see Privi back into production recently after the long layoff. PPU brass doesn’t seem bad at all. It runs a shade heavier than my Hornady and Starline. I bought four boxes of the 120 hpbt in August to try though I mostly shoot hand loads.
To start out with I tried a few in an 18” rifle length rig on a brand new PSA upper for break in. It wouldn’t lock the both back and I had a few stove pipes. It would not bring the bolt back far enough to eject. I grabbed some hornady 123 loads and some
of my hand loads. My hand loads are 28.1 of 8208 with 123s. It ran fine, no issues at all. But still would not run Privi. But,, that was a brand new first rounds fired upper. There is a chance it needed more break in time, I’ve seen that before. I had lubed the gun with lightweight Geissele GO JUICE. So lube was sufficien. Also, the gas block was turned wide open. The gun is still running fine with Hornady. No issue at al. Ejection is at the proper position, piles brass in a neat little pile, at 6-7 feet.
The second time was on my personal rifle length 20”AA barreled build with matching AA bolt. Measured brass indicates headspace on this gun and the 1st PSA gun was well within spec with my AA barrel just . 002 tighter. My gun ran the Privi just fine. It wasn’t as accurate as my loads but ok.
But on the 4-5th shot the case extracted but the following didn’t feed. The primer had blown out of the ejected case and obstructed the one feeding. I fired a few more rounds no issue and checked them. One of those primers was pierced. Some ejector swipe the case. was on the case with the pierced primer. Hornady Black, SSTs, and my hand loads (generally 205m, 28g-28.1 of 8208, 123 eldm at 2.575 give me no trouble whatsoever and don’t show pressure signs.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had any issues? I do hope these were isolated incidents. As a big fan of the 6.5G, we really need another ammo producer in the mix.
