Priming 50-70 Brass

Hello, I am thinking about a 50-70 rifle I saw today. I was putting together my list for reloading but couldn't find a tool for priming the 50-70 case. Lee didn't offer a shell holder for their auto prime. I just remembered I removed a priming arm from my Rock Chucker. Is this my only alternative? I shoot a 45-70 can this be modified to work? Now I have to remember where I put that part. Good luck. Thanks, any help will be appreciated. Cheers and Merry Christmas.

The rim diameter of the .50 is larger .650” than the .45 .610”.

Lyman and RCBS both make shell holders for the 50-70 that will fit any standard ram or priming tool.

This part is from memory. I use the Lyman because the outside diameter is larger to accommodate the rim. I think that the RCBS is the normal outside diameter.

If that is true, you can cut the base off the RCBS holder and it will fit the Lee autoprime. I did this with other oddball cartridges before changing priming tools.

I have a good friend that uses lyman for 50/90 and 50/140. Same casehead, different brass length.
If you have trouble finding any of the stuff you need, Buffalo arms is the place to shop. I think they have everything (almost), and no, I dont work for them. A big fan though.
We been using a 610 gr. paper patch out of a Hoch mold. Pretty cool combo.
