Primer Seating Tool Recommendation

I used Lee Autoprime for years until the handle broke. Went to RCBS and was satisfied. Thankfully, I didn't throw away the Autoprime because I nearly did. What good could it possibly be? I recently switched to 21st Century using my old round Lee tray. It is far better than either the Lee or RCBS. The seating depth adjustment works perfectly for me. I can't imagine how you could get a much more consistent seating dept. Operation is super smooth and it's nearly impossible to double prime. To the poster that had trouble with seating adjustment, I know John would send you another in a heartbeat. He's a great and innovative guy and takes his quality seriously. Wouldn't even be surprised if he's got one on the way to ya.
308ocd,
Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it as I do. I own nearly everything John has to offer except his front rest and when he comes out with his new BR model he is working on I will own one of the also, I have emailed him and talked to him on the phone multiple times, I know he is a good man and enjoy his products, after the holiday I will call him and figure out what is happening with my primer tool as it is probably a simple fix, thanks and enjoy.
Wayne.

Back from a couple of weeks abroad and had the new 21st Century Primer Seater waiting for me on return. Primed 100 cases this morning. Slick. I like it! Good, substantial feel, and comfortable to use right out of the box. May try to find a old-model Lee just for a new set of trays (mine are 15+ years old). Given the feel of this tool, I don't see any need for any other.

AAA+ Rating for this tool in my book.

Not that my 2 cents matter but here is 1 and 1/2. A couple of long time BR shooters I know politely moved away from me at a match while using a Lee Tool. I have no complaints with any priming tool personally but they said at a match one time they had a friend using a Lee and while priming, a primer went off and the man lost his eye. They felt they weren't as safe as other tools. I think that's a one in a million occurrence but none the less there are people who have used and loaded with all kids of stuff over the decades without trouble. I no longer use tray loaders. They explained how a K and M and Sinclair encompass a primer in steel until being primed. They are safer and do offer more ease and feel especially in new brass. I agree whole heartily with this. NOT AT ALL SAYING the other products aren't good. I respect the opinion of all and they have been at this 40 years so I took there advise to heart. I have never seen someone bring up this point. They also said to make sure and always use the seater base under my Wilson dies. A lot of people may disagree but I shoot with my 10 year old and just aire on the side of caution. I have also heard from several people that 21st is like several others in this business, leading the way to customer service and helping all with enjoying the shooting sports!! Thanks!!!!

My buddy set off a Lee unit full of primers and said he was startled but unhurt.

The trick with those type (like my RCBS) is that you don't want to "double-clutch" it like push the handle part of the way and then allow the handle to retract to the start position because the second time you press the handle it may have loaded a second primer under the first one since it doesn't know that the first one never seated and is still in the tube and then the pressure of the 2 stacked primers sets off the chain reaction. I also think that if you squeeze too hard even on a single primer it may ignite also but never tried it.

At least have the tray facing away from you and in a safe direction no matter which kind you use.
