Primer questions.

Will a Federal 210 not the 210M start to flatten before a CCI BR2 ans what is considered a flattened primer?

Is this considered a flattened primer? It is a Federal 210.

Thanks

That primer is not flattened.
Flattened is when the primer and pocket are separated by a very thin line ,
( the primer flows into the chamfer) don't go that far.

Anyone got any examples of what the primer looks like when it starts to flatten ? At what point should I back away from the powder load?

I've seen Factory Ammo get that flat and there's no overpressure.

To me, when the primer looks like someone melted it, then poured it into the primer pocket (with a dimple in the middle, that's flat. When you remove the fired primer there is a small ridge spreading over the top edge where it has flowed into the chamfer on the primer pocket.

That's where I back down, provided "Bolt Lift" hasn't warned me first.

OP - primers aren't a good indicator on their own for pressure. You can get flattened primers from too much headspace for example. If you look at a number of factors such as case volume, FPS, powder charge relative to recommended, case expansion and primer condition you will build a better picture of where you are relative to pressure...at the end of the day these are all just crude clues so mix it with a good dose of common sense.

Tools such as quickload provide useful insight as well.

Primer looks fine to me.
