Primer/powder Question

So here’s my dilemma,
I’m reloading a new caliber 6.5 creedmore. I’ve got lapua small prime brass. Everyone realizes how hard it is to get supplies, now imagine living in alaska and trying to find powder! I’ve gotten my hands on around 9 1/2 pounds of IMR 7828.
Ive seen some loads for bigger bullets using 7828 (135gr and up). Should I expect hangfires igniting such a slow powder?
Have any of you guys tried it?

Thanks in advance.

I have used 7828 in a 7 STW and 300 RUM but not in a 6.5CM. I ran it on Quick Load and 7828 seems way to slow for the 6.5CM, at least to work optimally. Alex Wheeler was using it in a larger 300 magnum in very cold weather and reported a problem igniting a round with a LRM primer.

I do have a 6.5 CM and bought some LRP brass so I could shoot it and spare my precious SRPs. That may help 7828 work a little better if that's all you have.

An acquaintance that I help out shoots a 6.5 Creedmore with H-1000 and 143 gr. Hornady bullets and 150’s. - I think that it possibly could be made work especially if you have the ssc type of 7828, you may need to use a drop tube to get it in the case, and if it were me I’d be using either a CCI-41 or a CCI-450 mag. Primer.

I think not. The SDS shows the powder is in the same family as these. I have down loaded IMR 4895 with no issues.
Seen IMR 4350 loaded in the 30-30. Sounded strange on firing, but bullets cleared the muzzle.
There may be a lot of unburnt powder exiting the muzzle. More then the normal 5% maximums.

Berger has data for a 135 gr loading. (Google it.)

But the only way to know for sure is shoot a few. 20210217_094821.jpg

My Lyman book lists IMR 7828 for 260 Rem. for everything from 120 gr. to 160 gr. It does not list loads for 6.5 CM, but since those rounds are so similar I would think it would work for CM just as well.
