Primer pockets

Question about primer pocket uniforming: I notice that the center of new Lapua .308 case pockets is very, very slightly raised compared to the corners. I am thinking this is maybe a result of drilling the flash hole. Anyway, should the pockets be uniformed to a perfectly flat bottom? The center of a primer is recessed a tiny bit over the anvil so it seems that the only place that would be really important is the corners of the primer pocket where the cup of the primer meets it. Yes? No?

I myself have noticed the slight little rise in the primer pocket and have checked it with a depth mic. Clean it up minimally with a 21st century primer pocket uniformer and I'm good to go.

I cut my primer pockets way to deep trying to clean the bottom up completely, guess I got confused and thought that's the way it was done but after reading, all wrong .1510 they are like .0150 deep after seating but only had couple misfires after over a thousand rounds, only thing is the depth is consistent lol won't do that again

I used to spend LOTS of time "uniforming" primer pockets for all my shooting. With Rem and Win brass that MAY have had a positive impact on accuracy>>> I don't know as I never made a test of it. However, once I got into F-Class and the prepping of HUNDREDS of rounds with Lapua and Norma brass, that became a very time consuming, labor intensive chore. So, I tried something>>>no primer pocket uniforming. I never noticed any difference in accuracy whatsoever, neither in consistently accurate loads. I am not the greatest shot on this Terra Firma, so maybe one of the benchresters can chime in and give their opinion. But as for me, I can not notice a difference. Ergo, I no longer do it anymore.

How many of you guys clean your pockets before every reload ?

thanks

All my cases are cleaned in SS pin media after shooting so the primer pockets are sparkling every time I seat a primer. When new they get a touch from the uniforming tool to make sure the edges are uniform depth.

I find that clean cases don't harm my accuracy at all.

I’ve got a plenty time to kill so sometimes do so using Sinclair’s tool to make all primer pockets the same depth with a square corner where floor meets wall. After shootin’ I clean the pocket using the same tool.

I clean my lapua brass up with a sinclair tool. I just like the fact of knowing they are "square" and the primer is sitting flat and the same everytime.

Whether its worth it or not, ive never tested it personally with or without. But i do know good brass prep make dang clear results

Have you checked the squareness on your primers? Is the cup (at the anvil) completely flat?

My humble opinion, goferit if you want and don't mind spending the time initially. Done correctly it won't hurt anything. Then there's the small confidence factor.

I uniform my primer pockets only for reasons of safety. I want to make sure that my primer pockets are deep enough to accept primers without force, and without any sticking out. This also cleans them as a side benefit. I would not otherwise worry about cleaning them. I am concerned about primer seating mostly because I shoot self loading firearms.

I uniform my pockets with the Sinclair tool which by design prevents cutting the pocket too deep. I can't say that I noticed any difference in accuracy from uniformed vs not uniformed pockets. I do it out of habit an attempt to produce the most uniform reloads that I can. The one thing I did notice is that the primer residue (burn pattern) from uniformed pockets are symmetrical as oppose to the non uniformed pockets.
