I had a Rem 7 1/2 cut one of my bolts in a spot that was not round and after looking at it close it looked like the primer itself had a hole in the radius , the gas didn’t come out around the primer but actually came through the edge.Is the cutting in the shape of a ring or an irregular indention. A picture would help.
I never ever touch primer pockets. Hell I don't even clean them after firing.
Thats what is happening here with mine. I didnt have time to get PICS last night. I will post some tonight.I had a Rem 7 1/2 cut one of my bolts in a spot that was not round and after looking at it close it looked like the primer itself had a hole in the radius , the gas didn’t come out around the primer but actually came through the edge.
An all to often occurrence. It happens with all brands. Some 30 years ago I had a man that could TIG a bolt face right up to the firing pin hole. Beautiful work. Then I just faced off the bolt face.I had a Rem 7 1/2 cut one of my bolts in a spot that was not round and after looking at it close it looked like the primer itself had a hole in the radius , the gas didn’t come out around the primer but actually came through the edge.
I contacted the Action Mfg and they said the same thing. Keep using it, it shouldn't give me any problems.(Which they were right, ive since shot another match with it and the rifle performed as it should.) They even sent me a new bolt, which is way more than i was expecting and i am extremely happy about. I will delete this recipe from my archives and start over with load development for these components....and a new lot of brass. Perhaps a small funeral service for this old lot of brass, we had some good times together!Dont let the pits bother you. Theres a million benchrest guns from the early 2000s that are severely pitted. Just stop doing it and keep moving forward. Its not going to hurt anything as long as you stop. I think if you really tested youd find if you slowed it down itll shoot better anyway. No need to go all out- it isnt the best load over time and only causes issues
