Seems like all the various powders in the similar range of pressure / power and burning speed work well with the Grendel and has been my experience ( ARC , TAC, 8208, 335, ) . The least accurate has been with 85 grain bullets and so far the best has been with 120 SMK's in an 8 twist bolt action . Varget worked real well but it produced low velocity with the 123's. In Pa. its still to cold out to feel comfortable testing loads, bout a couple months yet.A friend of mine just put together an AR rifle and 6.5 Grendel. He is planning on shooting Barnes TTSX 100 grain bullets for deer. Wondering what you guys prefer for powder with this combination. Thank you for any recommendations.
Forgot the 107 TMK's......with 30.2 grains of H335, Rem. 7 1/2 's, Hornady brass at 100 yds produced a three shot group @ 2670 FPS MV and a .206 " group c / c in my Ruger predator bolt action. Probably the best I'l get.A friend of mine just put together an AR rifle and 6.5 Grendel. He is planning on shooting Barnes TTSX 100 grain bullets for deer. Agree, Maybe if I worked more on the 85's I could have had better results but only had 100 of them and was anxious to try something heavier. Seems like for consistency the Sierra gets thumbs up.Steve, I am surprised that you said the 85 gr was the least accurate. In my AR I run H335 and the 85 gr Sierra HP,CCI 450. This is out of a 20" BHW Barrel. 8 Twist. The Howa Mini shoots them pretty decent but not as good as the BHW barrel. Other guys have reported good accuracy with the 85 gr too. I hear Sierra is also going to discontinue this bullet also. It just goes to show that rifles are like people. Each one is different and they like different things.
This.I'm using 8208 with 123 gr bullet with very good results. I'm using H335 for 85 gr bullets and it does real good. Never tried 100 gr. Bullets though. I'm loading for an AR and the Howa Mini Action.
