Preferred FTR Bipod Mount?

I have a neat bipod design which my machinist friend will manufacture for sale; rigid and easy for fine-tuning adjustments. All this was worked out for mounting on my flush Anschutz rail. So now the question is which mounting method is preferred by the majority? It would be easy to also include a short rail section for flush or external mounting if necessary. What do you frequent FTR shooters like best? Thanks.

I prefer the Anchuntz myself. My bipod for FTR, varmints, and most target shooting. My tactical and hunting rig uses a badger rail that is bolted to the Anchuntz.

Picatinny. Solid, secure, standard dimensions.

GG&G makes one that has all the bugs worked out. It's solid, bullet proof (hard anodized), *standard* dimensions, and doesn't just grip the rail lips (most of which end up sliding, in my experience), but drives the set screw into the back of the t-slot fore-end rail.

They also make a bipod adapter - originally meant for attaching a Harris bipod (sling swivel stud mount) to a picatinny rail. Again, it is solid, well-engineered, and pretty much bullet proof. Plus it interfaces nicely with the above rail adapter - or any other rail section people might use.

John Weil, who made the CenterShot Bipods for a while, used these adapters on his bipods. They removed the sling stud, drilled and counter-bored two holes for attaching to the bipod top, and called it a day. Rock-freaking-solid. Never slips, never budges. Comes off easily with the flip of a QD lever. The cam angles are well thought out, and already debugged for ya.

The only real downsides... probably a little more heavy duty than something designed for F-class only. Definitely not cheap - not hideously expensive, but maybe buying bulk you could get a break on the pricing. And they come in one color - flat anodized black.

I love my Seb JoyPod, but this is one area I would recommend not doing what they did - making their own rail adapter and clamp. The new ones are better than the original, but the GG&G are still better.

Don't reinvent the wheel.

Monte I definitely do not want to reinvent the wheel, but at the same time want something that sells at approx $150 and with all the features that are necessary for good performance. The approach has been to use heavy duty industrial components vs custom made parts; so this will be all function without the beauty. At a match a few weeks ago I loaned one to a shooter after the first relay, and his scores improved significantly!

I've been through 4 bipods in the last 2 years moving upstream each time finally ending with a joypod. If I were in your shoes I'd go for a picatinny mount. You're not only likely to pick up F-TR guys but also some of the tactical guys.

Just a word to the wise, function and precision is assumed then looks matter. Ugly doesn't sell well no matter how functional.
