Predator Light preferences

A friend is looking at starting to night hunt as economically as possible. He is considering either the XLR 500 or a Wicked light.

Also any info on the IR led for NV using the XLR lights

I haven't tried either.

Which, and why appreciated.

Thanks fellows!

I won a light kit years ago with the red led light and mounts. I think it sold for about $125. I ended up finding the same light on ebay for somewhere around $25 or $30 and it came with 2 batteries and charger. Ebay had the mounts as well. I put together 2 kits for my buddies for less then the cost of the kit I won. The ebay lights were brighter as well.
Do a search for HS-802 lights.

Take a look at Elusive Wildlife lights , I have a couple of the XLR250 with the adj. light beams, around the house 150 yds. is about as long as i can shoot, there is no problem seeing raccoons or other critters.

I use a Streamlight green light. It does not have a concentrated/focused beam, like the ones mentioned above. It'll go 200 yards, possibly further, for something the size of a coyote, but it's getting a little touchy for something the size of a coon and I mean lighting up the body, not just the eyes. I like it because I have had it 4 or 5 years with only one problem (the battery cap separated) and it has a lifetime warranty. Streamlight is good about honoring their warranty. I want a wider beam so I can keep it on a moving animal. Take the time to get whatever you use so it is focused the same place as your cross hairs. It's easy to clip on for night use and remove for truck gun duty.

Really appreciate each response.
Haven't used lights since the Q beam of the old days so I'm a little lost.

Thanks again,
Alan

I have wicked, sniper hog, coyote lights. both gun mounted and handheld. Personally I like the wicked brand. mostly green lens and IR

I have a $15 red light that takes a single 18750 battery. it will reflect eyes for almost 1000yds. I dont think i could be sure it wasnt just the farmers dog at much past 100.
I use a Fennix regular white light for the shot.
That came after i called in a deer that kept her head low, thought it was a yote until her head shot up to high, shes lucky i was adding pressure on the trigger!

Thanks for the info.

I run Lightforce and Fyrlyt spotlights. Very very good. Have use Lightforce for years with excellent results. Recently purchased the Fyrlyt and its a whole different thing. Both are straight halogen, LED and HID are rubbish for game. Light is the wrong frequency. Red lamps are really good for predators, but shooting past 150 yards is problematic.

The best way I can explain it is the light travels via waves similarly to the way harmonics in a rifle barrel works. The "waves" or frequency of a HID light when used for spotting game is too harsh and causes game to shy away. A standard halogen does not have this effect. When coupled with a red or green filter, halogen is far superior. I have used all 3 types of light and am basing my comments purely on my own experience. HID is noticeably brighter, but I can't get game to sit long enough to pull of shot unless they are looking away from the light.

FYI: This is just about the best halogen spotlight on the market for pest destruction.
