Precision Rifle & Tool Lowboy stock vs Mcmillan F-Class stock

Since Precision Rifle & Tool made the Lowboy stock similar to the Mcmillan F-Class stock, and the Mcmillan F-Class stock a reputation of having a flimsy, bouncy, springy forend, does the Precision Rifle & Tool Lowboy has the same bad habits? I thought the fiberglass would be stiffer than than laminate.

$995, plus $600 if you get them to finish it. I just talked to Ray today and that was what he told me it would cost for one of his stocks finished :-[

yep I bought two of them and thats what they cost. I havent inletted or bedded them yet so I dont know about the forend flex but im also interested to see how it goes. Im thinking that if it has too much flex ill lay some carbon fiber in the barrel channel.

Yes they are expensive butri had really good service through ray and thats part of what you pay for!

I talked to PR&T today and they said it was $995 for a stock that wasn`t inletted, sanded to 150grit, and metal hardware might need tweeked to work smoothly. What a RIPOFF! I`m looking elsewhere.

They told me $995 was the price for not inletted and the hardware installed. Doesn`t matter, I think that is way overpriced. No doubt it is a very nice stock but I will not pay that for a stock.

yeah they are bloudy expensive but when you start adding adjustable cheek pieces and butt plates thats where the dollars add up. They are in the same price legue as a master class stock.

I havent bedded or done a final fitment with mine but so far im happy with the wood work although im not extatic about the butt plate and cheek piece. When adjusting length of pull I can not do the screw up tight enough to prevent the but plate pushing in/ twisting with mild effort and the cheek piece doesnt opperate as smooth as I would have hoped. Im worried if I over tighten the cheek piece ill strip the screw and be in all sorts of trouble.

I love the profile of the stock but id have to say that the masterclass hardware is definatly well out in front. The pr&t butt plate is laser cut and doesnt clamp tight enough but the master class is all cnc and thr cheek piece works slick as!!

I have to agree. My first PRT stock has the older butt plate and it clamps fine. It's also a lot nicer looking. Their newer one is uglier with lots of fun sharp corners that you get to file off and does not clamp down tight enough. It also takes some time and effort to sand & polish if you go that route.

I had to mark mine so that I could return it to position in case it gets bumped. I also have to make sure I don't rest it butt first on the ground to hard or it will slip. Bummer that it's that way, but it tracks nicely so it's a fairly minor inconvenience for me. I used some 80 grit paper to rough up the cylinder a bit and used a little rosin and that seems to help it "hold" a little better.

I will be unhappy if this is the case - mine ships on 24th. The web site states it is cnc machined.

Has anyone tried the Kelbly 1m with adjustable cheek piece? For an International buyer Kelbly is really easy to deal with.

ive had a close look at mine and I think the solution is to cut a slot just to the outer side of the clamping bolt. the slot needs to be cut all the way through from the outside of the butt plate through to the centre relief slot. that will allow the clamp to actually flex and pull up tight when the bolt is torqued. . . . . . if you follow me that's my theory I just need time to give it a crack!

sitting behind a 7saum I doubt that but plate will stay in position for very long the way it is!!

Well, I might not be shooting the "Saum's" and howitzers some of you are but I have two PR&T Lowboys with a Panda in one and a Stiller Viper in the other and with the lil ol 6 Dasher and 6x47 they are one sweet stock to shoot F Open matches with at MR/LR. I have owned Master class and other high end stocks but for my money Ray is the man and his workmanship is quality. I did not buy the adjustable butt plate because after owning three on other rifles I found I just did not need it for F Open. I did opt for the adjustable cheek piece and my stock in-letted for the Stiller last month cost me $800.
Happy and satisfied customer here.

Would you mind posting a pic when you are done? I will probably look at doing the same if I think I have trouble. Also who did you bring your stocks in through? I stumbled across kelbly being able to do it?
TIA

You can get one of these for 450$ and pillar bed it or 550$ with an aluminum bedding block. I bought one a while back and can tell you it is hard as a rock and their will be no flexing in the forend. Has a fully adjustable but and cheek riser.

I just cut the slot and so far its working well. I have to figure out how to post a pick when I get a chance.

I had mine sent in through accuflight arms. the guy was good to deal with although I had a few hiccups with the freight forwarder they used putting "miscellaneous items" instead of "firearms parts" on the packages. . . . . I ended up having to a bit of fast talking and prove I had all my paperwork up to scratch with customs before they would hand them over.

customs actually recommended next time I use hurricane butterfly as they have the least amount of issues with the stuff they send.

in saying that a few mates have had a fair bit to do with kelblys and have been very happy with the service and the price.
