Prarie Dog Hunting

Hey guys,

I've been reading alot now about Prarie Dog hunting and it is something that I would love to do. I do however live in New Zealand so I have to sit and dream about it!

Seriously though, how does one go about finding property to shoot 'PD's and if someone like me wanted to come and shoot, how would I go about that?

Regards,

Michael.

Greetings-call the VHA @ 800 528-4868. There are B&B's, guides and outfitters who advertise in the back of the magazine. May & June are good months to go. Also, call the Dickinson, ND dept of tourism - they have lists of ranchers who allow shooting of PD's. It's a challenge at 500 yds in a stiff breeze, I will attest.

Well if you come to Canada, in Alberta or Saskatchewan most land owners will give you bullets if you shoot gophers on their land. Ever scince the government figured "Gopher Cop",poison to add to grain) was not a good idea, land owners are losing the battle. I personally put aprox 4000 rounds through my 10-22 last summer and 400 through my 223.

or if looking for an outfitter try calling http://www.alpineoutfitters.com/alberta_gopher_ground_squirrel_hunts.asp

hope this helps

What I did when I started out was ask people you run into and they will point you in the right direction. The local cafe is a great way to start.

I know one very important thing is you can not have enough ammo.
