Praise for Powder Valley Inc.

Wonder if their prices have gone up?? ;)
They are one of the very few vendors that didn't hike their prices to the stratosphere (I'm looking at you, Cheaper Than Dirt) during the last big period of scarcity. That earned them all of my business, and I've been very happy with all aspects of their business.

They started out selling components as Dexter Automotive Supply about thirty-five years or so ago. I don't know if the component business was sold to someone else or they just changed the name, but I've been buying everything through Powder Valley since then unless they're out of what I'm looking for. You can occasionally find an item or two cheaper elsewhere, but overall prices from Powder Valley are hard to beat.

When I asked if prices have went up it was in reference to the thread being 12yrs old, guess it was a 'flyover' for most?

Cannot remember the gent's name that owned it back in the late 80's and early 90's when I shot a lot and had an FFL so I would order cases of 8# as he would mix them. Time flies but he sold it to an employee I believe who I think is the same individual that has it now. I am going to say 10 but probably with my memory etc probably more like 15+? Is it Ken now or that was previous owner?

Edit to add.......not Ken but Kent. CRAPOLA that was in '91!!!!! Sold again after Kent.

I was completely aware this thread was 12 years old when I posted to it. I think the “flyover” might be attributable to your lack of understanding as to the validity of posting to an older thread when the observation is appropriate no matter the age of the thread. Contrast this to the thread that asks a question in the context of a decision that is obviously going to be made in a relatively quick timeframe.

I will take out a loan and buy all the powder and primers they got so everyone will call me a smart guy to stock up like that :D

I received two jugs of Viht yesterday from them: the order went surprisingly fast and without a hitch. Since my local shop stopped carrying Vihtavuori I guess this is my powder go-to.

Great company to deal with and very good pricing....only wish they had a notifying system to alert you when out of stock items come back in.

I started buying components from them when they were still Dexter Automotive back in the mid-'80s when I got into IPSC shooting. They weren't nearly as well-known then, and it was pretty easy to get same day shipping on most stuff. Kent & Paula Radcliffe sold the business to their son-in-law I believe. They were both very much involved with the Kansas State Rifle Assoc. back then - believe Kent was one of the directors on the KSRA board for years. Don't recall now whether the last time I spoke with them was at the Tulsa gunshow, or the NRA annual meeting in K.C. in 2001...good people.

I think 48 pounds at a time and as many primers you can get your hands on is a smart way to buy.
my sarcasm was meant for me to buy all they had so you and no one else could get anything. then according to common wisdom I would be called a smart guy. or would I?

Good people own and run Powder Valley. They have often kept a lid on powder prices even when other vendors were exploiting high demand.

Yeah buddy, all the time.

Oh, I read your sarcasm loud and clear. I was just being , ....................., whatever, you can fill in the blank. But seriously I never buy less then 24# and primers at a time. My next purchase will be 48#. I'll let you know when I do it. I could have done it the last week or 2 but I've been busy here at the house.

Unlike some of the others they pack the boxes like you would want them packed and wrapped. No spilling of bullets or open boxes here when you get them. They are GREAT !

Funny thing a few hours after posting I got my Powder Valley order. Big box very well packed and I think they must spray some kind of adhesive to the flaps of the big box so it can't open even if the wrapping tape was to come off some how.. They are hard to open, which is a good thing. Unlike the big M company which comes to your door spilling everything and hardly any packing one strip of tape it's good. JUST IRRITATING Big M. ............HB
