PPU 7mm 140 gr SPBT

Bought a couple hundred of these for my 7mm-08 because they were available. Has anyone tried them ? I was just wondering about consistency ; weight , length, etc. I am going to use them on whitetails and pigs.

They shoot well in my 7MM 1895 Chilean Mauser. Weight and construction seem very good. They are not match grade bullets but they shoot consistently at 100 yards. One thing I do not know is how well they expand for hunting. You may want to test them. One thing I have found is that you want to keep the velocity modest for best expansion. 2500 fps or so.

DG Thanks !

Out of my 7mm-08 with the wind at their back They would probably leave the barrel at 2800 fps so they would be at a modest speed down range.

It is your load and barrel which will have an impact on the performance of any bullet.

I have weighed and measured several hundred PPU bullets and find that the lengths and weight are within a reasonable percentage of a batch but do not confuse this with the finer tolerances of bullets costing significantly more. However, at reasonable distances (~400 yards and less) the bullets perform well when you send them to the right place. This will not be a gristle or shoulder buster at 500 yards or further since the retained energy drops below about 1,000 ft/lbs.

2,800 fps at the muzzle is just about right for moderate loads on this bullet and even the 140 gr. Partition which loads just about the same for magazine length.

I am going with N203b because it was something I could get and is very similar if not the same as R15. My normal powder for the 7mm-08 has been H4895 but as with most powders lately it is not readily available. I guess this will be my "Shortage Load" but as bad as it sounds, it if fund to try new stuff.

They shot ok in my Stevens 200 in 7mm-08, then 7mm-08AI.
And as mentioned, will kill a deer.
With the 7mm-08, and 140gr class, it really comes into being with a slower burning powder than what you listed.
H414, Win 760, Alliant RL17, PP2000MR, Ramshot Big Game, and any of the 4350s.

Barrel lengths, powder lots, bullet lots, atmospheric conditions and a willingness to accept varied pressure and velocity outcomes often affect opinions regarding which powders or bullets are the best. I can assure you that I did not test every powder available then. Experience dictated where to start and then aided in the cross section of powders found to be useful. Most if not all of my selections will be affected by the efficiency and the velocity range of any given powder. Inefficient loads were discarded. YMMV of course due to the above mentioned variables.;):)

Well responded!
In these days, it may not be velocity/accuracy that drives a certain powder purchase, but rather what what is available.
Ditto the rest of our components.
