I have recently acquired a PPG match reamer. Based upon the specs I am able to locate on line, (I realize this may be erroneous and will require verification), it appears that the freebore length is unusually long, at .0680".
Is there any particular bullet in the .223/.224 caliber that any of you have noticed prefers a long 'jump'? Or should I just plan to order an 8, or perhaps 7 twist barrel in order to shoot 80 grain or perhaps a bit heavier bullets and seat them close, if not into the lands?
I've no particular desire to shoot heavy-for-caliber .224 bullets. But I've no desire to fight a long freebore with 55 or 60 grain bullets, either.
If anyone has been down this road, I'd like to hear from you. I suppose Dave Kiff would be the guy to talk to, but I'm not sure if he's giving out unsolicited advice these days?
Thanks for your thoughts.
