Power Pistol in 357 mag

One manual shows 9.5 - 10.5 for Power Pistol in a 357 with 125gr bullets and another manual shows 8.2 - 9.2 for the same powder and bullet. There is a big difference which one seems to be better and safer.

Start with good Brass not range pick up if you want to play in the heavier loads with pistol. I bought a crono to help me in this area. You dont want to just keep adding powder till you find what is to much. There are many things that effect pistol because pistol powders tend to burn fast. Look into this and learn.

It can be frustrating seeing different powder charges in different manuals for the same bullet weights but what I have always tried to use as a baseline is the bullet manufacture's load data, if available. They tested their bullet and some bullets, even of the same weight behave quite differently even as the same powder charge.

Spot on Information here. Focus on the weight of your bullet and stay low and work up will keep you safe. Keep in mind the internet has some BS info. You need to filter this out!

Another thing is what particular revolver (assuming here) you will be loading for. I have many different revolvers in 357 in many different strengths. I treat my FA83 in 357 different than my S&W M60. I can pretty much ignore load data in the Freedom Arms and I always stay sane with the J Frame.

A 357 has a place in my safes always. They can be so accurate and so versatile. Maybe because a 686 was my first handgun. As far as stopping power goes, a 357 has stopped every charge from bears in the Low Contry of South Carolina so far.

Back on topic, a 125 grain JHP using Power Pistol seems like a good combo. I don't use PP but use other similar burning rate powders. Yeah, manuals can be all over the place and I can see where it would make you scratch your head. For safer, obviously the 8.2 grain and for better, probably closer to the 10ish grain. My comment was for a full size revolver. The S&W M60 I mentioned is not fun (but still safe) with old Federal 125 JHP factory ammo. Impressive but not fun and not for everyone or every day.

Well the bottom end load will definitely be safer! Better will depend on your intended use and your gun. I'm a 158ish cast load shooter with my 4 357's. 38+p loads for normal plinking etc., a slightly heavier load of Unique or 2400 for serious carrying.

I haven't tried Power Pistol in any of my pistols/revolvers yet.

I did pick up some BE86 to try.
Fairly fast in the velocity for all the loads I've tried. Accuracy is not great!!

Switched back to Silhouette in the 45ACP. True Blue in the 9mms.
38Spec is Unique or Green Dot.
357Mag & 30 Carbine is H110 or Blue Dot.
