Powder

Folks,
I'm guessing most everyone already knows but I got an email from Hodgdon yesterday and they stated, Winchester 296 is the same as H 110-just labeled differently
Accurate 1680 is the same as the old Winchester 680

I don't know about this in today's world, but about 25 yrs ago or so,these 2 powders were absolutely different....they didn't even look the same or burn the same I used both and decided on H-110 as my powder of choice. Good luck and stay safe.

Keep in mind that Winchester, IMR, Accurate Powder, Ramshot, and Hogdgon are the same company.

This is the reason you will be seeing powder names retired and getting swept up to just one name.
For example IMR4350 and H4350 will only be sold as IMR4350.

THAT IS NOT TO SAY THEY ARE THE SAME POWDER NOW. THEY ARE NOT. (sorry for all caps, I thought I should edit that)

It is just an example of why you will see them begin to disappear. I think we will also start to see the duplicate names condensed.

IMR4350 & H4350 may share similar characteristics but they are definitely not the same powder and their data is not interchangeable. IMR4350 is made in Canada and H4350 in Australia. H4350 is the more popular of the two these days. Are you of your information?

I have had the opportunity to meet the Hodgdon people several times at a charity shoot in Topeka I am involved with. Great folks, friendly and helpful.

YES. Also, many years ago, I spoke with the powder people about those two powders.. Winchester was very forthcoming about telling me what was in their factory 22Hornet ammunition. The 296 powder was used in factory loads, but was no longer sold to the public because of difficulties in maintaining coating consistency from lot to lot. With factory ammo they could deal with it, but wouldn't sell it to the public.

About 296 vs 110 - I asked the Hodgdon people about that. The answer was 110 had a slightly different coating than 296 and would actually compare about to 295 if there was such a number. Back in the 80's silhouette shooters thought 110 was a little less heat sensitive, that's it. In actuality, 110 and 296 are very similar but not exactly the same......pretty much interchangeable.
