Powder recommendations for 243 and 105amax/bthp

Looking to get some powder recommendations for a 243 1:8 twist shooting both 105 amax and bthp. I know each barrel is different but I was looking to see what you guys have had good luck with for my starting point

Reloader 22 or 25 worked great in my 243 AI behind 105 Bergers 1x8. Shoot RL 25 behind 115 dtacs 1x7.5 once I burned out the 105s going 3300 fps. A bit hard on brass and barrel. Scott

I have 5 more days in the Gulf and will PM you my load I use in my wife’s 243, that is exactly what I shoot in it, it has a 26’’ 8 twist Krieger on it also.

Following loads are for 105amax, 105horn.bthp & 107smk.

43 - 43.3 gr of H-4831/H-4831sc, Win brass, 210m primer.

48 - 48.5 gr of Retumbo, win brass, 215m primer.

46.4 gr of RL-25, Win. brass, 210m primer.

H-4831/h-4831sc never failed me in any 243win barrel. But for pure speed you may want a different powder because H-4831 never shot bugholes for me at max pressures.

thank me later :)

I shoot a Shilen 26" 8 twist, Savage Short action, HS3 chassis, Bush. XRS glass.

I'm shooting N160 or N165 in a 6SLR (think .243 with a 30deg shoulder), 30" barrel. Both work well. I love the price of the Hornady 105's!

I just pulled my 6MM Competition Match barrel off today. Yesterday I fire formed 100 pieces of brass for my next barrel. I used H1000 thru the life of this barrel. My last ten shot group yesterday measured 1.084" at 215 yards, the round count is a staggering 5100+. Tomorrow I screw on an X-Caliber .243 1-8 twist. It will get a steady diet of H1000 with the Hornaday 105 bthp. The barrel life and accuracy should be good, simply because I have witnessed success from other shooters running this combo with decent barrel life of 3000+.

I have a Stiller Tac 30 with a 28 inch Krieger 8 twist .236 in straight 243 Win with freebore set to seat the 105 VLD orange box bullets at 2.840 with a .020 jump,,it is in an AICS 1.5 Chassis with the spigot mount Atlas bipod and running 5 and 10 round AICS mags,,topped with a 8-32 Sightron SIII MOA-2 in the Barrett 15-40 moa adjustable rings,,

shooting the 105 VLDH with 41.5 H4350 is getting me just over 3200 fps and enough accuracy that I made 18 of 20 hits on 10 inch gong at 1,020 yards last time I had it out,,

as is weighs about 18.5 lbs but it is a blast to shoot prone and can hang with some much larger calibers pretty far out,,

I have been shooting the heavies in .243 since I rediscovered the medium bore after shooting .30 cals for years.

IMR or H4350 under a 105 make bitty groups. As a nots, I noticed no difference in accuracy when using either version of this powder.

I run imr 4350 and hybrid-100 with the 105 a-maxes. Both do well but the h-100 is a bit faster and more accurate in my gun. Hope this helps you good luck!!
