powder question

I load for 30-06. Typically do 20 round batches and we'll say 48gr in each round using a 1 pound keg. If my math is correct I'll have 280 gr leftover in the keg. Was wondering what do you do with your leftover powder. Use it for fireforming only? Mix it with another keg of the same powder? (Kinda doubtful on that one)

Again thanks for the knowledge! !!

No more powder than you are talking about I always just dump it in the next jug of powder of same type (but probably different lot #) . Keep in mind your next jug if it is a different lot# may give different velocity across a chrono using same charge weight. When changing lot numbers I always try to chrono the old lot of powder and compare to the new lot# and adjust accordingly . These days that is about the only time I use a chrono anymore.

Simply blend the powder with next bottle...as long as its the same mfg and

product.........just curious what powder/bullet you're running for 48 gr charge

the ole 30-06 isn't fussy...but the 4350 powder burn rates make it shine...

Fill the case...with the correct powder.....sounds like you're burning 4895 or

similar speed ? Think slower.....fill the case.....FYI..7000 grs per pound...

145 loads per pound with your 48 gr charge...122 loads per pound with 57 gr

charges....I look first at Nosler loading data...good info......

Dogbuster...running IMR 4064 W/ Horn 165/168 gr sst. I was using 48 gr as an example but I think its close to max load according to the lyman book. Cant seem to get my hands on any H4350 at the moment. ...want it for my 6.5 284 also.
thanks

I mix it up way before i get to that point that way the transition to new powder is less of a big step. Been doing this since the 99 lot of n133 and for a hundred pounds or so it works the same way it always has with no crazy lot differences to learn.

I do the same with my bottles. If I dont have enough to fill a powder thrower, or the hopper on my Chargemaster, ill dump the used bottle in a new bottle, shake it and mix it up really good, then dump it in the hopper. Never had any issues.

You guys sound like you've worked in distilleries blending scotch whisky. Their methodology aims to assure every bottle tastes exactly the same, in perpetuity, so they "back blend" continually.

most bottles will hold well over the 1 lb in them, -- so, when I get down to about 1/4 pound and buy and new bottle, I combine shake like mad and load.
I then watch the crono and as long as the # are close, forget it and shoot.

I'll provide an alternate, I hear powder works great for roses... Useful when you're at the end of a 1lb trial that you don't want to repeat...

Varget is well known to differ from lot to lot, so what I do when I'm down to one 8 lbs keg I mix it in with two 8 lbs kegs so that it smooths out transition form one lot to another. Works for me.

My powder is like a 200 year old moonshine yeast strain for my ppc. Get a keg and mix 16lbs in it then pour 8lbs in the next year and before you know it your powder never changes!
