Powder in hopper for 8 years. PSA

powder left in machine
You do realize you might have been just lucky and others might not be so lucky, right?

I used to leave powder in my hoppers. After I had to go back and replace them all ($$) and read about the chemical interaction between the powder and the plastic, I don't even leave powder in a hopper overnight when I am going to be loading the same thing the next day.

Finally switched powder in my 12 ga Lee load all(Blue dot from the 70's, hopper has had some in for 3-4 years). Trying Longshot, working well on the pheasant.

Jim, what about the plastic containers powder is sold in? There's no reaction there? Or does it only harm plastic and not the powder?

If you leave powder in your hopper, it will acclimate to the ambient humidity. Keep your humidity consistent or you’ll see wild swings in mv because it shift burn rate. Drier powder is faster powder.

powder will sometimes "corrode" the hopper. I see it in my Redding powder measures.

But they make those every day so I don't worry about it. Keep it low humidity and carry on.

NEVER!

Pyrex glass is the only reservoir material that is not affected by powder. I make pyrex reservoirs for all the shotshell loaders. There is a guy that makes pyrex tubes for the metallic powder measures.
