Powder for .338 Lapua Magnum

Please give some guide which powder should I start with .338 Lapua Magnum?

Based on my .308 win handload, I just start with Varget and happy with it.

I have used up to 94gr of Retumbo w/300smk's and Berger 300gr Hybrids with velocity around 2850 thru a McMillan TAC 338, 27" bbl . Wicked deadly on Wyoming elk.

My coming rifle was AI-AX 338 tw" 1:9

Then 250 -300 gr. should be fine.

What are the main different between H1000 and Retumbo?

I had a good experienced with Hodgdon. So, may try them.

I've been using reloader 25 with good results. 2700fps with 300gr Berger hybrids and accuracy was great. I just got 3 pounds of reloader 33 for Xmas but haven't tried it yet. All reports I've heard so far make it sound like the go to powder. Unaffected by temp changes and a little more velocity than any of the others.

I normally order reloading components like powder, primer, and etc., from Powder Valley but last e-mail reply from John said that " There is no expected available date for out of stock items "

Can someone recommend another supplier for reloading components;

Bruno Shooter
Natchezss
Grafs
Third Generation Shooting Supply

Any if the ones you listed would be good. My reloader 33 came from precision reloading in Mitchell SD. I believe they have a website. Also Sinclair international may be worth a shot.

How long is your freebore? Whats your oal on a loaded round at the lands? Are ya jumping or jammin?
I have 338 Lapua reamer with a 119 freebore and I'm just curious as to what's working for you.

I've been away for a bit. The OAL on my .338 Lapua is 3.747 with the 285 Hornady and 92 grs Retumbo. I just tried the 300 gr Berger Hybrid with 94 grs Retumbo, same OAL, and got 2807. No pressure signs, easy bolt lift in my Tactical Rifles Chimera. This round fits the magazine (just barely) I'm using Lapua brass

Sgt45 do you know what your freebore length is?

I loaded a couple dummies with 300gr Bergers and SMK's and they are buried so deep into the case it doesn't look like something that would shoot good.
It looks like an inaccurate/ pressure problem to me.
I'm getting anxious.

I don't know the freeborn but I was out yesterday 20F 10MPH wind from 11 o'clock and the 300's outshot the 285's (or maybe I was cold and rattled) but the 300 gave me a .126 3 shot group and the flyer opened it up to .475. The 285's were in the .5 area. All this was at 100 yards as I don't have longer around home.

I shoot Alliant RL22 along with Hornadys' 250 gr BTHP, 215M primer in a Lapua case. Chrono @ 3044 avg groups under .5" I started at 85 gr and worked up to 89.5 gr - no pressure signs easy bolt lift.
