powder for 222/223 long barrels

Anyone have a recommendation for powder for 222 and 223 long barrels normal weight bullets?
Getting ready to put on a factory savage 223 with 50gr vmax for squirrels and after that i will be going to a shilen 28" 222 barrels 9tw shooting 50-53gr.

I never try and adjust powder usage by barrel length.

What works in long barrels works in short ones as well.

After playing with QL for a 18" Mini 14 and 26" 12tw Remington it looks like Benchmark is your powder for standard weigth bullets in the longer barrel. Go to heavy weights and it changes everything!

You seem to be looking for a slow powder to build velocities throughout bullet's barrel transit.

Can recommend you checkout the Lee manual. The newest Lee book was published less than a year ago, so data and powders covered are very up to date.

No other manual has the pressure data, bullet weights, or extensive lists of powder data like the Lee book. Not like there is case dimension info or other data you might expect, yet the book is probably the best 2nd choice to have on your shelf at this time and has more info than any other out there.

Lots to consider and compare there. Midway has it on sale for $13.95 this month. Magazines seem to cost more that that these days.

Good luck!

With 52/55 gr moly bullets, 24.5-25.0 grains of 2015br/Reloader10x is the poop.

26.5 grains of Varget/R15 is also very good but the case is very full and does not run well in a progressive if you need too.

A friend who has a .223 Savage with a 26" barrel, and shoots VV133, and gets excellent accuracy, and velocity. It is far and away the cleanest burning powder, that is suitable for what you have in mind. It also works well in a .222.

VV133 is the other powder that works very well in the 24.5 to 25 gr range. I couldn't remember the other one...

My best load (not necessarily yours) 223 - 27.5 gr. H335 50 gr. Molly - Blitz King, 28 in. hart barrel 3400fps. under 1 in. 300 yds. super accurate. Hundreds of dead p dogs.

N133 is my go to powder for 223. 25gr and a 50gr bullet shoots bugholes in every rifle I've tried it in regardless of barrel length.

X2

Interestingly, I can interchange V133/2015br/Reloader 10x in this load. They all behave almost exactly the same.
