Powder Commonality between Cartridges?

May be an odd question and I know every rifle will like different combos. But I'm wondering if there is some look up listing what powders work with certain cartridges. Short of me searching each cartridge and listing what powders work for others and cross referencing to find a suitable powder to buy for 'most' of my rifles.

powders I have now are: RL26/17/23, H1000, H4831sc, N570/565.

Looking for a common powder or two for some of my rifles: 204Ruger, 257 Roberts AI, 260Rem, 6.5Swede, 270Wby, 308Win, 325WSM and 338-284.

I realize one powder won't work for them all but if I can get a powder that works for say 4 or so of them, I'd be happy. I think IMR4350 would work for a few which I have a little now.

When you say the powder will work, you may need to be more specific what that means for you in terms of pressure / velocity / fill ratio or other criteria. if You can define the criteria, then you should be able to make progress with your table.

No real criteria but a powder that would work. Doesn't have to give the top velocities. Obviously don't want to get into pressure signs.

I have an opportunity to get 8# of powder and want to get one that'll work for a few rifles. Looking to narrow the list down to what to look for.

Pressure profiles are all over the place for even a single caliber, given the vastly different bullets - weight, composition, profile, bearing surface, seating depth and a few other things - that might get shot from a given rifle. Finding "one powder to rule them all" for even that one caliber can be a tall order. Having that one chosen powder be able to then fill that role across a wide range of calibers and rifles seems a bit of quixotic quest.

Said differently... if you wanted a single powder that would work for safe plinking loads in all your guns, something would probably work. But assuming you want even some of those rifles to get within spitting distance of the performance intended by the caliber when it was designed, no.

Which is not to say that some powders can't do some heavy lifting. Like the IMR-4350 that you mentioned. But you're going to need a few powders to feed that (quite nice) stable.

H 4895 or IMR 4895 will work in the 204, 257, 260, 6.5 and 308 but obviously only follow published data.

The others I'm not sure about - generally, high capacity cases work better with slower powders.

I think reloader 23 would work for at least four that you have listed

Look-up load data on the Sierra bullets webpage. Type in the cartridge you want data for (.223 Rem ... whatever). That will show you powders they have load tested for that cartridge with their bullets (various weights and styles). Write down the powder names and look up all the other cartridges you want data for. Make yourself a chart of the powders used and cross reference them to see commonality

I have found that IMR4064 is one of the most versatile powders for the widest range of cartridges and will work well with most of your list. I always keep several pounds of it on hand.
