Powder 200gr and 240gr bullets in 44 mag

Hi folks,

I was wondering about getting 1 powder for doing all my .44 mag loading (at least with Jacketed bullets).

My 2 bullet choices are:

Barnes XPB 200gr (Or a similar non-lead bullet we can get locally)

Nosler 240gr JSP

Ramshot Enforcer seems to be a good choice as that is quoted as giving good velocities for Barnes (Barnes and Ramshot sources) and the Noslers (Ramshot).

I wonder if Hodgdon H110 and Viht N110 aren't a little bulky / slow for the lighter bullets?
Anyone have experience of Lil'gun?

Is there anything else worth considering? I'm fairly new to "pistol calibre" reloading so any advice / experience appreciated

2400, h110/w296 and lil gun are all good powders for the 44 mag. Barnes shows accurate no7 being their accuracy load for the 200 xpb. No idea how it would do with 240 gr. My experience with reloading 44 mag is currently with a rifle. For that i've found h110 and lil gun are the best for velocity and accuracy from 200gr xpb to 270gr deep curls. I use lil gun in my 500sw too so I keep more lik gun on hand than h110 but either works.

Thanks, we can get Accurate

Thanks for that @LiveFire

I'm using a 20" barrelled Chiappa Alaskan (1892 clone) in .44 mag for these loads so experience very helpful.

Any other pearls of wisdom?

Best wishes,

2400. I'll put it this way, i'd gladly trade the H110 I have in stock for 2400. Or AA #9. Yes H110 works, Yes it makes a ton of power, but I just don't like all the drama and the very narrow load window with factory data.

Blue Dot works well, too. Good choice for loading both bullet weights mentioned.

Lil Gun has a very high flame temperature, I read an article a while back about it causing forcing cone damage in revolvers because of the heat.

I believe that. I tried it for a while in .44 Mag and .22 K-Hornet and gave up on it. Peaky, too.

I have read people talking about that on forums. My uses are in rifles. I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. It was also my go to powder for 450 bushmaster loads. For the rifles I use them in I have been very happy with h110 and lil gun.

2400 is the easy button for me. 300MP can really get the 240s moving though. Haven’t tried anything lighter, especially in copper.
