Possible Fake Leupold Scope Scam

Many here may possibly know this already, but I have been seeing a lot of listings lately for scopes on various sites purporting to be Leupold Mark4 M3 6-24x50s or other models that are far to cheap to be reasonable. Close inspection of some of the descriptions admit in small print that these are "Chinese clones", but most do not. Leupold even has a warning on their site (https://www.leupold.com/service-support/resources/counterfeit-warning) about these. Visually, these scopes look identical to the real thing including logo and other markings but are cheap knock-offs. If the price is too good to be true...guess what? It probably is!

Just a heads-up for prospective buyers.

TKS for the heads up. Just out of curosity did anyone ever try these scopes out to see if they were any good at all?
The knock-offs I mean.

I found a few 'highly positive' reviews on some of them, but in nearly every case the sentence structure and word usage made it painfully clear that English wasn't their first language. Pretty obviously plants.

I actually bought one on purpose a few years ago, just cuz I'm the curious type. I paid $50 for it, plus like 10 bucks for shipping. It was better than you'd think for the money, but no way as good as the real thing. As far as the looks of it, it was very good, would easily pass as the real thing to look at it if you weren't very careful..

if it has a 7777 ser number its fake. don't ask me how I know!

I to bought a couple years ago.
Brand new in the box looked exactly like leupold.
I knew they weren’t legit but only paid 150 for both.
Best 75.00 I ever spent on a scope.
I bought a bushnell trophy a few months back, POS

I was at the LGS today and Ken showed me a Leupold Mark5 2 1/2-10 that was a fake. The side focus knob was covered with a "L" cap--that didn't move or come off. He said the optics were real crap. He said he called Leupold with the serial no. and was assured it WAS NOT a Leupold. Said the guy brought it in to have it mounted and that he bought it off the internet.

I got to see one of the fake mark4 scopes they sold a few years ago. How somebody could be fooled is beyond me. The black ring was actually painted on gold. It was just as bad as a romex watch

WHAT? You have some Romex watches for sale???

I was at a gun show this past weekend and a dealer had one for sale.
He thought it was a fake but really didn't know,he still wanted $ 150.00.

I was in Beijing last year and went to a 4 story mall that had acres and acres of shops that sold nothing but counterfeit merch. You folks may already know this but there are grades of fake. For instance, a low grade fake Rolex might cost $40 and wouldn't fool a blind man. These are more novelty items. A high grade fake Rolex might cost you $300 but only a close examination by a trained eye would spot it.

It was a memorable experience.
