Possible dumb suppressor question

I just picked up my first suppressor today, a Rugged Oculus 22. The guy at the shop told me to never shoot hollow points through a 22 suppressor, as they could damage it. Is this accurate, and how could they damage short of a strike?

"The guy at the shop told me" << um yeah just nod and smile, then do your own research because most of them have no idea what they are talking about. Obviously if the manufacturer doesn't have anything mentioning it, you could ask them but if it were an issue they would have it on more than a few of their docs.

Now that the "paperwork" has been streamlined and the tax removed I believe many new local sources for suppressors will pop up. Gun shops that never cared to be in that arena before with employees who really don't know can lead to a lot of misinformation. Also, I already see an influx of new brands and new products from existing brands. The potential buyers will need to really stay up on all the changes in order to make a true informed decision.

That's how I treat the guys at archery shops, but I have a ton more experience in that realm compared to suppressors.

You picked a good one. That suppressor is rated up to full auto 5.7 X 28. It has an unconditional lifetime warranty. I would ignore the guy at the shop.

If you shoot a caliber that the suppressor is rated for, then there should never be a problem. But like mentioned before, always consult with the manufacturer if you ever have any questions. The problem that I’ve seen is if someone has a .22 caliber rated suppressor but they can stick a .243 bullet in the muzzle end, they think it’s ok to shoot their .243 or 6mm through that can.

I think those bullets that separate upon exiting the barrel are referred to as shot shells. I would not shoot them through a suppressor but I have shot a lot of hollow points through rimfire suppressors.
