Poo-Poo'ed Burris Rings

Well actually I never really poo-pooed them but stuck to my guns and laboriously shimmed and re-shimmed and re-shimmed to get good tube to bore alignment.

Then I bought fdshusters 36x Leupold (Thanks Franks) which included the Burris rings and zero inserts. I ordered a set of .005",.010", and .020" and received them a couple of days later.

It took about 20 minutes to have a perfect alignment with a centered everything. Boy let me tell you I'm going to start being more open to new ideas. :D

These things are GREAT! tom

Mid South has'em 49.95 for the 30mm's, $33-36$ for the 1"depending on which ones you want. BTW WELCOME TO THE LIGHT ;D ;D ;D

A friend of mine has an M77 Ruger and I suggested Burris 30mm Signature rings. However, looks like Burris doesn't make a ring for the M77 mount. Bummer!

Don't know if it's a proprietary thing or just low volume.

I'm a BIG fan of signature rings. Just be aware that after a few seasons the inserts do squish a bit (altering their MOA value) and you may want to replace the inserts. Also, if you slide your scope fore and aft in the rings you WILL have to recheck your zero, even if the ring inserts appear to have stayed in the same place.

I wish they made these things for Davidson rails too.

itchyTF: Ask and you shall receive( information that is). Burris makes adapters for the Ruger, mdl 77. I used them on my Varmint 2 bolt-action, and presently have another set on my Ruger #1. Really saved the day for me because when my 'smith re-barrelled the #1 with a Shilen barrel he must have off-set the quarter rib a few thousandths, because I quickly ran out of windgae adjustment to the right. It was easily corrected with the off-set inserts ( .020 in front & rear rings). They are available from MidSouth, listed in their 2011 catalog page 31, order# 023-410990 at $24.97. Also available from Midway, 2011 master catalog#34, page 889, product #855-239, at $32.99. Looks like a good savings from MidSouth, and good people to deal with besides. ;)

Me tooo...I really like Burris Signature Zee Rings if for no other reason, they don't scratch the scope tube on an expensive scope. When buying a nice new expensive scope, its easy to think "I'll probably keep this thing forever"...and that may be and it may not. With all of the new improvements, reticle choices etc. etc. the day can come when one says, gosh, that's a little better and...you know the rest. Meanwhile, another newer shooter comes along looking for a like new little cheaper price scope and... I've used some of the more expensive rings that are so perfect but unless they are lapped by a smith or yourself and aligned perfectly on the base, they too can leave small scratches. (if anyone knows of other rings that absolutely won't, please correct me and chime in). Best Wishes All

Rubber cement ;)

I was thinking of trying to put 1 layer of plumbers teflon tape (very thin) between rings and scope body too...haven't tried it yet tho

+1 on the Burris inserts, just wish they would license that to other ring manufacturers, because there are so many good rings out there. Probably just a matter of buying 30mm rings to work with 1 inch scopes with custom made inserts, it is brilliantly simple..

Be very careful when turning Burris Signature rings after they are installed on a scope. Make the front ring very tight before turning its dovetail to align the rear. I once dented a scope tube when doing this, even with the inserts in place.

Maybe that is why NF does not recommend use of turn in ring systems.

tenring: I can see how this could happen, and the reason I use nothing but the Zee rings. With them I am able to keep the rings attached to the scope, remove the scope/ring assembly and swap scopes around, and back again, without any sighting-in required. Each scope has its own dedicated set of rings, and they remain "permanetly attached".
