polishing resizing dies. ?

I was just wondering , is it worth the time to polish resizing dies ? Like pistol dies , FL sizing dies . I have rcbs dies for 223 and 308 . Rcbs said to use 400 grit sand paper. But the the thought of sandpaper in my dies makes me sick .

Redding told me to use #0000 steel wool (fine) I use in drill slow speed it may polish the die slightly, but what it does do is remove and sizing wax/lube, and clean any other gunk that has accumulated out quick and easy. I also coat the die with Eezox right afterwards to prevent rust, and final cleaner/solvent as my fingers leave rusty prints all over everything.

You can disassemble the die and place the die in a vibratory tumbler with walnut media and tumble to the desired polish.

A shotgun mop chucked in a drill with J&B Bore paste applied to the mop will polish the inside of the die.

The die is hardened and 400 grit wet and dry sandpaper can be use with oil to polish the die with out damage.

I use all three methods to remove imbedded grit that can scratch your cases.

Unless sizing forces are too high, I only polish the neck portion of the die. I use metal liquid polish for light polishing and fine lapping paste for heavy polishing of galled necks, I finish with the metal polish.
I polish all Redding dies, whether body dies or FL bushing dies, I have found they are rough from the factory and require far too much sizing force which leaves lube dents even when minimal lube is used.
I wouldn't use sand paper, wet and dry would be better.
I chuck up a cotton bore mop of the appropriate size in a drill press, put the polish in the die, and use up and down strokes as the bore mop spins inside the die, but if I'm only doing the neck, I leave the mop in the neck for a minute or two, checking to see how much is required and repeating if necessary.

Cheers.

I polished up my .22BR body die yesterday. I used some grey scotch brite on forceps and the finish came out quite nice. Just spun it up in the lathe. Had some light surface rust and general gunk. ;D Now it is as smooth as a babies - you know the rest. Lol.
