polishing a wilson Die

I am working with a wildcat It's a long story but I have a wilson seater that is too tight at the rear to allow a certain brand of new brass to enter. I have a ring die and this fixes the problem, except its hard to force this brand of brass through it. The rifle chamber is fine with this new brass (chamber doesn't match the reamer used to make the die, I have a conventional 7/8th thread seater and so I have used some of this brass). I would just like to use the Wilson.

To polish the die I just wrap some emery paper around a piece of dowl, chuck the die in a lathe and quietly open the base of the die up till the brass fits? What grade of emery shoudl I use? how far up the die should I polish? The brass comes within 80-100 thou or so of fitting flush in the die.

Cheers for your help in advance

I would use 220 to start and as soon as it fits I would switch to 400 and then polish with 600 . I use 3m wet or dry but emery will do a decent job.

I also start with 220 when polishing a die. But I work down progressively from there with 240, 320, 400, 600, and finish up with 1500. That's probably overkill but it only takes about ten minutes longer and it satisfies my OCD. ::)
