Point Blank

I thought I new what point blank range was until I read some recent posts regarding shooters wanting to shoot point blank. If I understand the term point blank is the distance at which the bullet intersects the line of sight on it's ballistic path. If I recall this happens twice once on the way up and once on the way down. I'm a bit fuzzy on that part.
If this is so, are shooters trying to avoid holdover at long range by having the POI and bullet path intersect at the target?

I don't know if there have been any advances in this area, but your target size/tolerance plays a roll, as well as scope height. You can calc 'Point Blank Range' for your load using Point Blank Ballistic software, and probably any other). It's free.

Target shooters utilize sighters to hit their mark, and PBR does not come into play. But hunters limited to ~300yds should consider a zero which provides highest PBR, and remember what it is.

Benchrest shooters commonly call their 100/200 yard matches Point Blank matches. It's probably not technically correct but that's still the term used.

Not too many benchrest shooters consider what they do point blank. Never heard that term until I read it on Computer BR. Used to be always benchrest now with LR we are called short range. Whatever, tecniques are different skills are the same.
