point blank shooters

I'm gonna google this, cause I have NO idea. Is there an opposing group of shooters that strive to shoot really short ranges?

Benchrest Central

This is about it as far as I know. The Internet has put a lot of information about short range BR available than there was before the age of the web not all of it good info.
Active Short range BR competitors are a pretty small community of people.
As I've learned myself.
A lot can be learned from reading older posts over on BRcentral.
Tony Boyer's book has been a great asset for me.
If there are any matches close to you go to one and absorb

This is the reference that is used a lot for 100-200 yd BR competition

Point Blank/Short-Range in"B"enchrest competitions normally refers to the distances of 100 and 200 Yards. Very rarely, 300 yards. :)

Besides this site and BRC, Saubier Small Caliber.com.
To learn more about BR competition: nbrsa.org and International Benchrest Shooters.com

Actually 300 yard contests are fairly common. From last year schedules: NBRSA held (3) 300 yd aggs in Group comp. (8) 300 yd matches in score (Hunter and VFS), (1) being the Nationals.
The IBS held (13) contests at 300 yds ....all score (Htr and VFS), most were held for State Championships, and also is part of the 200/300 yd leg of the Nationals.

17 out of the thousands upon thousands of 100/200 contests held yearly around the country, make them fairly rare. :)

Add 2 more 300 yd matches contested in 2014 sanctioned by UBR (Ultimate Benchrest) :)
I have always understood that Benchrest (capital B) meant having to do with Registered competition. If you tally up all the scheduled match dates for point blank BR in 2014 it comes to approx. 500 days of competition between the NBRSA, IBS, and UBR. Even if you interpret each individual yardage contested (many shoots have 2 contests per day, 100 in AM, 200 in PM) the total aggs is well under 750.

If I counted right, there were actually 5 300 yd UBR matches held last year. Since we only have a few ranges (relatively speaking) that hold regularly scheduled UBR matches, that's a good average. I expect there to be a few more 300 yd matches this season as two of the new ranges prefer 300 yds over 200 yds. If you are somewhere near the region you would be welcome to shoot with us. No membership is required for the competitor. In UBR it is the range that has the membership. You can find more information on Ultimate Benchrest including the ranges and match schedules here: ultimatebenchrest.com

"B"enchrest is meant to mean Short-range NBRSA and IBS competition in all my examples. As in Tony Boyer's realm of involvement. The capital "B" in quotation marks meaning the ultimate. It can mean many things to others I suppose. :)

OP,,,I see from your profile that you live in eastern PA,,,,this spring (check the schedule ) you should mozey over to western PA (Fairchance gun club --near Uniontown ) and you will see one of the finest examples of "short" range "B"enchrest in the nation,,,,Roger

Many of the short range matches, scheduled in your area, will be listed on the IBS website sometime after the 2015 schedule is finalized in a week or two.
