I had my POI change today @ 200 yards by 1.5-2 inches. This is my groundhog load which has been on time out to 400 yards. Today the temp was a little high, mid 80's, but the cases were in my bag/shaded.I shot at 3 hogs this morning and missed, so I went to the range and checked my 100 yard zero, and it was perfect 1" high, then wen back out in the field, I was shooting high again. This was all in the span of less than 1 1/2 hours
The cases were shaded in my bag, and I went to town on some hogs on saturday without any problems. So my question is, how could I hit high in the field, go to the range have my zero which I've used all season, go back to the field and still hit high? I gave in 2 clicks down for a 200 yard shot and still hit high, after verifying my zero at 100 yards.
The two things I'm thinking to blame are:
1: the temp of the cases causing pressure changes- even though they were kept shaded in my bag
2: my bedding; the metal of the gun warming up and warping somehow in the bedding; my gun is only glass bedded, not pillar
My next step is I'm going to shoot the gun on paper @ 200 yards to see where exactly its printing. Then look into pillar bedding the action. I would appreciate some input from you guys, but keep in mind that this load has been very mean/accurate on hogs all season, up to 2 days ago when I last shot it, but any input is more than welcomed.
BTW, the load is:
