POA for 600 yard BR

I’m a newbie to 600 yard BR, fun and challenging game. I spent Thursday and Friday doing ladder tests with a new bullet in my 6.5x47 for the match on 4/13. By the end of Friday, I had a load I was confident in. My last group Before the match was a “verification” of all my tests combined, the result was a 4 shot group under 1” total at 600 (see attached pic)

I do my load work with a shoot and see target with a 1” orange dot placed in the middle, the contrast is great and helps take the “hold” error out of testing. At the match, my best group was 2.35” and my agg was just over 4” in light and heavy gun. I was pretty bummed. Even though condition were less than ideal I was disappointed in my results.

In all of my testing, I had settled on a load which I feel will hold 1” vertical. However, I saw a lot of vertical in my targets today. After the match, I put my standard shoot and see with an orange dot up and shot my remaining 6 rounds for the day at that. The result was about 3/4-1” vertical, strung out about 5”, the wind was ripping so that didnt bug me, I had 3.75” Left on my gun.

But what I took away from this was the vertical on the blue IBS targets I was getting was from my hold being inconsistent. I didn’t feel as consistent shooting on the IBS target as I did on my load developmet target.I need to practice on the IBS targets, as I’ve only shot on them at matches currently.

Where are you guys holding on the targets? I was holding center X today and struggling, one shooter I knows said they hold on the number “9” in the blue, but that wasn’t visible with the mirage today. Anyone have any tips or advice on preferred aim point? Pumpkin on a post? Center X, etc. Definitely plan on practicing on the IBS targets as I feel I am the biggest factor, but would love to hear advice from more seasoned shooters.

Thanks in advance!

Consider other areas as well. Bench set up, gun handling, shot in different conditions than tuned in, etc can all lead to what you saw on the target.

20190413_161947-1.jpg measure all five.... This was my best of the day. I was 5th in group 20 something in score..... I hold off rather than clicking the scope. My poa was the bottom of the 8 on bottom target. Top of the 8 on top target witch was a 2.6 or something.
The wind kept me off the x.

Thanks for tips. The four shot group in the picture was really a four shot group, I only had four shells to verify my load before the match. Lots to learn in this game, much different than High Power and F-Class

Yep”
1.2 x ring is pretty small and after the sighter period there’s nobody telling you where your hitting.

It is small, and it’s challenging. I’m loving every frustrating minute of it.

I am going to start shooting on the actual targets tho, get over that hurdle as fast as possible
