please explain how a 20 MOA rail works

I have a 20 MOA rail on my 6.5x55 and I dont really know what it's for or how to make use of it.

Can you guys please explain how the rail works in sighting in for long range etc etc

Some of the companies that make 20 moa rails make others also such as 10 or 15. When I bough my farrell I requested 10 moa and it was no problem. I wanted some extra adjustment just in case since I have been getting more and more into LR.
