Pleasant Surprise This Morning

Took my German Shorthair out for his early morning potty run and saw a red fox trotting along the field about 30 yards from my fenceline. I was very happy to see him, since foxes have been very scarce in our area for several years due to extremely heavy coyote pressure. Used to be a female that raised a litter every year for several years in a burrow in a sand hill about 200 yards from my house. Enjoyed watching the kits play and grow. Haven't shot one in over 15 years and happy to let them grow and hopefully reestablish.

Good.

I never see a coyote but property cameras show foxes around at night. Sometimes I see them during the day also. Maybe because there are few coyotes around?

Since coyotes are scarce, there's a couple that hang around the woods behind my house. Get them on the game camera. They get all the scraps and leftovers. Agree, nice to see them. They are a beautiful animal.

I see reds and greys in my backyard on occasion. Would rather watch than shoot them. My wife wasn’t too happy when a grey stole one of her albino yard squirrels.
