Plastic screw-on sunshades

Does anyone know where the milky white, plastic, screw-on sunshades can be bought? I'm talking about the ones that are about 10+ inches in length. Need one for Nightforce 56mm objective & Leupold Comp. Series 45mm objective. Thanks.

guidom: They may be home made, but the ones I've seen have matching screw threads, same threads that are used for the factory lens caps & "Hard" sunshades.

A friend is going to post a picture of one that he has, for reference.

Posting up a pic of the tube I bought used and the box is marked NXS on the end, the original seller said that NF is making them but after talking to Frank today and perusing the NF website I cannot come up with anything. The tube I have pictured actually fits inside the NF BR scope sunshade and is glued in as per a "homemade" install. It works well and i wish I had it today as hurricane "Sandy" was being felt today. Would love to hear some input on where to find more of these as per Frank's thread.

Frank

Lawrence: Thanks. I appreciate it. Don't need them for mirage, but to keep the wind blown rain from thoroughly & completely wetting down the objective lens on my scopes.

Happened today at a match & instantly turned my rifle into the "unusable" category. Had the NF shade in place, but it's too short to be effective against wind blown rain.

Others may have the same problem also.

Lawrence: Thanks for trying. I'll keep working on it.

If not available I guess another choice would be to screw several factory metal sunshades together.

Just for kicks I screwed 4 of the Nightforces together and came within a couple inches of the muzzle.
That's got to reduce the amount of available light getting into the scope, but in the case of wind blown rain, I guess it's the lesser of two evils.

Saunders mirage tubes was the name of the product........they disappeared from Sinclair's catalog perhaps 7 years ago. Never seen one at a BR match.

LHSMITH: Tried to call Saunders in Iowa, and the phone number has been dis-connected.

Followed up on a couple of other leads, but they were a bust also. May not be able to get a new one, guess they fell out of favor (for their intended purpose), but working on one last resort. *

My thoughts on screwing several factory metal shades together to get a really loooooong one may be the only option.

* Preacher to the rescue. Search has ended. Thanks all. fds

They stopped making them because they caused a lot of internal mirage when it was hot outside, and a lot of them had to be painted flat black to be able to get any use out of them.. Until I painted mine it was like looking through a cloud.... The paint did solve the problem..

check out a empty water bottle. i use a empty water bottle on my sightron 10-50. its a perfect fit. spray paint it black.
