Skeets -

You are spot-on !

At the 08 West Pennsylvania Groundhog & Egg World Championships,
I counted more than 65 ' Airglides ' there.

They ARE a superb value, and come provisioned w/ great features.

Plano even makes the snap-in opaque boxes that one can put inside the case; either side of the buttstock.

The little gold stick on tag they'll custom mark for you, is a nice touch. So is the set-it-up-yourself inside foam blocks; not to mention fore and aft velcro security straps to hold the rifle in-place.

Looks like the Airglide will handle tall scopes, within reason) too.

My current rifle sports a 29' finish-length barrel.
I chose tha length because....it's the longest I can go; and still fit my rifle in the Airglide !

I have three Airglides, and they are great!! But - the plastic buckles break easily,Plano will send you new ones for free) and with the Kelby 30mm tall rings on my NF, closing the lid securely is a challenge.

Noting 357Mag's post,

Will a 30' barrel fit ya think? MBR style stock with 14' LOP.

Dont have the gun to measure.

My rffle = 14.5 LOP
= 29' bbl
= 49.75' OAL
= 8' action LG

Inside Plano Airglide - 50'

Your 50' gun would likely contact Airlgide case inside
at both ends.

357mag,

What are these 'Plano even makes the snap-in opaque boxes that one can put inside the case; either side of the buttstock'.

I bought this case for a Savage F Class w/30' barrel. The case tapers slightly towards the bottom and the bottom of the pad hit the case and the gun would not fit.

Cost to send it back was almost as much as the case so I had 2 options. Cut a hole for the barrel to fit through or cut one for the pad. I chose the pad end of the gun. I removed the pad and traced it on the back of the case, rough cut it out and finished it off with a sanding drum on a dremmel tool.

The pad and the finished hole are very tight. I just slide the pad in and lower the gun, Straped in the pad sticks out about 3/4'. This case is only used to transport to and from the range. No airline travel.

They are neat cases, however I would like to relate my experience with mine. I bought one to travel with my F-class rifle across country. I chose to ship it to make the trip easier, plus couldn't take it personally with me) Well, packed the gun in the case with extra padding, put the case into cardboard box with more padding. It survived the trip one way, but apparently I needed much more padding for the return as FedEx managed to drop the package,I assume) and break my stock. Cracked the stock through the wrist, seems there is the possibility of point-loading in there if the box is mishandled just right.

Not indicting the Plano, just pointing out that they should really be handled fairly gently.

How tall are these cases?

i.e. Will my upcomming F-class rifle fit inside of it with a Nightforce 12-42 BR scope fit inside it? Would I have to remove the scope to fit it in?

Cheers

My Savage F Class is topped w/a Sightron 8-32x56 which sits on top of a Farrel one piece base. No problem closing the lid.

My guns butt sits about 1' off the botton in foam and the 3' wide front sits about 2 3/4' off the bottom in foam. A little hard to measure with the lid closed but I tried and looks like you have about 9 1/2',top to bottom) in the area where the scope would be sitting.

Hoped that helped.
