Pinned lugs, are then fixed solidly or wobbly when no barrel attached?

OK, bought a name brand action with pinned lug. Lug and pins came in a separate baggie. Was going to let the smith install lug when putting on the barrel. While waiting, I open it up and noticed the pins would slip(snugly), into the hole in the action face and the lug would slip over the pins also. This left some figgle/wobble of the lug. Reckon I had assumed they would be a forced fit providing a solidly attached lug to action. It's the weekend so after so searching with no results, thought I would ask the brain trust here. So is this the normal "pinned lug" setup?

No problem. Most dont even use pins. All they do is keep the lug in the same spot for the bedding when changing barrels. Its not like a pin for a scope base where it helps locate and lock down. You dont want to have to hammer a lug off because of a tight fitting pin

+1 to Dusty. Pinned lugs are a minor aid to barrel / receiver assembly. Once assembled, they are irrelevant.

Thanks guys, I was more thinking of it for quick/easy barrel replacement. At 68 11/12ths, I don't think I want to be spending a lot of time waiting on gunsmiths for a rebarrel. But I reckon hand snugging the barrel down with action bolted into stock would get the lug in place then remove from stock for final tightening.

I prefer a tight fit here. The only reason we are using a pinned lug is to keep the lug in exactly the same place. If it can move it defeats the purpose. Borden's lugs fit like all lugs should in my opinion. 2 well fitting pins is my preference. I do bed the sides of the lugs on actions that have no other resistance to twisting in the bedding like many round actions. So I do not want any movement here if a barrel is changed. I do not like action screws to do anything other than provide clamping force. I do not want them acting as lugs for recoil or twist.

Concur. Pierce lugs are a very, very close fit, as were the two Remingtons I had them pin.
