Pinned Lug with Recessed pin holes

I bought these pinned lugs and they have recessed holes for two or three pins. I want to get one pinned with at least two pins.

How the heck do you drill a hole in a reciever without using the lug as a guide???

Above my pay grade. If someone wants to do it, send me a pm.

Same thing happened to me. I got one for my R700.
I just drilled the holes all the way through the lug first. Then cut the chamber end off one of those million old shot-out barrels I can't bring myself to throw away. Threaded that cut off stub though the lug into the receiver to hold the lug on. Then I marked where the stub blocked the holes. Then unscrewed the stub and used a grinder to relieve the "bottom" of it, where it was blocking access to the holes. Then put it all back together, using a recoil lug alignment tool. Then I hung the action off the baseplate of my drill press by the lug. Made sure everything was nice and straight, and drilled straight through those holes. I put tape on the drill bit in such a way that when it was to depth, the tape brushes on the part and clears away the chips.
YMMV.

I designed a pinning tool and my friend Paul Craddock made some from barrel cut offs. They are very nice. I hope to sell them soon.

But I have no idea how you would line up pin holes blind.

I use a vblock to hold the reciever vertical in the mill. Use a stub machined with a snug fit to the lug to center it. The stub has a threaded hole to bolt a hold down clamp. Center your 0 20170803_191324.jpg 20170803_191118.jpg off the stub.
1.You will need to know or detetmine the pattern the holes are drilled.
2. Place the lug on the stub with the holes up.
3 Chuck a pin in a collet and verify it lines up with the blind holes.
4. Remove the lug and drill/ream the reciever

I've done a handfull of remingtons this way. Both blind and through hole. After seeing one barrel gall, the rest will be blind holes.

What does a galled barrel have to do with recoil lug holes?

How about turning one upside down and sacrificing it by drilling the holes all the way into the tool to get the correct circle? Thats how i made my tool then cut a groove all the way around. I quit pinning lugs many years ago after breaking off a carbide drill bit. It serves no purpose except to line the recoil lug up for switch barrels- the same exact thing a lug alignment tool does.

Just ask the manufacturer the radius and hole spacing. More accurate than a jig. Borden lugs are .605" and 60 degree spacing for example. I like the blind holes, one less place for a sharp edge to scratch a barrel shoulder when torquing it up.

Picked up a small gall/scratch on the barrel shoulder and mating surface of the lug starting at a pin hole during removal. As Alex mentioned the sharp edge of the hole provides this potential. I'm now breaking the corners of the holes on the barrel side of the lug when changing barrels.
