pillars and bedding materials

I am gathering components for my next build and wanted a few ideas on pillars and bedding materials. In the past we have gone with what our smith used which is aluminum pillars around 5/8 dia or slightly larger and I think marine tex? I was wondering if there was any plus to using SS pillars or something different. Also, would a devcon product such as devcon titanium, steel or al, be superior? I have bedded our own actions using Devcon Ti and was wondering if I should send some to my smith with this next build. I know it costs about $90/lb which probably keeps folks from using it. However, I know it is a military grade product with very little to no expansion with high or low temps. The build will be off a single shot BAT SB and manners stock, probably 6.5x47 L.

Aluminum or SS pillars, no difference really. If you got picky, you could go with the SS pillars/steel putty, Aluminum pillars/Al putty etc.. Devcon 10110 is what most use and it works great, best choice IMO. The Devcon Ti is too expensive and not worth it IMO when the 10110 steel putty works as good as it does.

Pillars serve only one purpose - they keep the wood or foam in the stock from compressing under the pressure of tightening the action screws. So, any material that is not compressable works equally well. Aluminum, brass, SS, MS, even a solid cylinder of epoxy. Pillars should have a skim coat of bedding over them. Any good adhesive works just fine. Devcon, JB, Accra-Gel or Accra-Glas. Makes no difference.

The same for bedding material, IMHO. Any and all of them work equally and you'll be hard pressed to prove any difference on the target.
